So, I gotta say, I am not a math person. As a kid, I’d have complete meltdowns during math homework, never failing to push my parent’s patience. Numbers don’t make sense to me. Math was too black and white for my grey mind to handle. Too many rules to remember and mistakes one could make. Math has no wiggle room; you’re either right or wrong.

However, I am endlessly impressed by those who speak the language fluently. Math is the language of the Universe, at least that’s the rumor, and helps us understand nature in new ways. I admire the way numbers dance in their minds and come to life as easily as a character from a favorite book.

Finding Patterns

The human mind is fantastic at identifying patterns, whether it’s seeing a face in the bark of a tree or spotting the ‘man on the moon.’ This ability sets us apart from many other species we share this planet with.

Spotting patterns taught us about the seasonal changes and when to plant seeds or expect crops to grow. We learned the location of Earth in our solar system by paying attention to the patterns in the stars and planetary movements.
